What we have done, and what we have not

What we are aiming at

We build to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.2 at level AA. Under the Equality Act 2010 we also have to make reasonable adjustments so that a disabled person is not put at a substantial disadvantage, and we treat that as the floor rather than the target.

What that means here

• Everything works from the keyboard. Every link, button and field can be reached with Tab and used with Enter or Space, and the thing you are on is always visibly outlined.
• Text meets contrast requirements. We never put white text on our pastel colours, because it fails at any size. Ink on cream, ink on pastel, or paper on the deep periwinkle.
• Nothing moves if you would rather it did not. If your device is set to reduce motion, the scrolling animations do not run, the header stops hiding itself, and the page simply stands still. This is tested, not assumed.
• It works without JavaScript. The headlines are readable, the navigation works, and the forms submit. Nothing important waits for a script to load.
• Every form field has a real label above it, not a placeholder that vanishes when you start typing.
• Decorative illustrations are hidden from screen readers rather than read out as filenames.
• Text resizes. Zoom to 200% and nothing is cut off or overlaps.
• There is a skip link at the top of every page so you do not have to tab through the menu on every visit.

What is not finished

We would rather tell you than let you find out. This site is still being built and the following are known:

• Photography is still being shot, so some picture areas are currently placeholders describing what will go there.
• We have not yet had the site tested by people who use screen readers and other assistive technology every day. Our own testing is not the same thing and we are not going to pretend it is.
• The scroll-driven animation on the home page is still in development. It already respects reduced motion, but it has not had a full review.

Telling us about a problem

Email us with what happened and, if you can, what you were using. We aim to reply within two working days and to tell you honestly whether we can fix it and when.

If you cannot use the site at all, we will take your order by email or over the phone instead. That is not a lesser service, it is just another way to order flowers.
